Plenty Of Rain
The rain continues to come down. I'm wondering if the rain will hinder planting the garden next Spring. I'm hoping the rain doesn't hinder my garden planting next year.

It's Cold
My old body doesn't handle cold weather very well. I never did handle cold temperatures very well. The Homestead needs plenty of attention, but I don't seem able to provide it. I need help.

It Is Taking Longer Than I Expected
It Is Taking Longer Than I Expected To Get The Homestead Fencing Completed. The wife helps with a few jobs, but overall I am the major labor supply. My physical health being what it is makes it difficult for me to accomplish much in a day, any day really. I achieve what I can, but rarely do
I successfully complete a project in one day. Oftentimes, after a day's work I find myself laid up for two or three days, sometimes more than that. But I keep trying.

Slowly The Homestead Is Looking Better
Our little homestead is a work in progress. I dream of what I hope it will be one day. My health, and age, is slowing me down. Life hasn't been a bed of roses for me; I have lost so much. Yet, I keep trying and hoping that I will be able to turn this little homestead-in-the-making into a productive homestead.

The Homestead Is Starting To Look Better
I am thankful to the good Lord above that we have been able to get the homestead mowed and the landscape is looking much better. I am studying on how we might be able to manage this property more efficiently so that it doesn't get overgrown again.

It's Been Difficult
I had planned to write a post much sooner but never actually got around to it. Due to the heavy spring rains, and also myself not being well physically, the Homestead became overgrown. The grass and red clover was thick as a wiskbroom. In spots, the grass was nearly shoulder high, and the weeds were even taller. It would've made good hay, but we have no way to cut and bale hay. It would've made good pasture, but we have no cattle or horse. But, thankfully we were able to get it cut down to our size where we can now, hopefully, keep it mowed and manicured.

Pigs!!!
The neighbor’s two pigs got in my yard sometime
between 10:00pm last night and 7:00am this morning. These two pigs weigh about
100-lbs each, and they did considerable damage around my trailer underpinning and
septic tank. Guess who will have to repair all this damage? That’s right….Me!

It Still Feels Like Winter
It still feels like winter. But the landscape is greening up, a sign that spring isn't too far off. Come on Spring!

First Day of Spring
Well, today is the first day of spring. But winter is fighting to hold on for awhile longer.

The Homestead Is Soaked
The weather people are predicting more rain over the next several days. It looks like it's going to be awhile before the ground will be in any shape to get any work accomplished. Just have to wait.

Cold and Wet
The ground is saturated from all the rain. But fortunately I am getting over the flu, albeit slowly. I just don’t have any spunk in me,
and my energy level is low.

Homesteading On 3+ Hillside Acres
Hillside land is difficult to manage, and even more
difficult to grow crops on. And for a person who doesn’t have nearly enough
financial means to develop such land, well, it is nearly impossible to make one’s
dreams come true. The fact is I’ve never been financially strong. By that I
mean I always have been and still am a poor man. Of course, being poor never
stopped me from helping others whenever I could.
Anyway, in October 2017, I began erecting fence posts
that will later secure the fencing wire that will enclose my 3+ hillside acres.
I had gotten a length of probably about one hundred feet of posts sit. On my
way home, after dark, on November 1,2017, a deer ran out in front of our pickup
and caused nearly five thousand dollars in damages. This truck is our only
dependable source of transportation. It took nearly four weeks to get the
damage repaired. But I am so grateful that the insurance covered the damage. At least I think they are going to cover it all.
The bank lets us use this truck, providing we make the monthly rent payments to
them on time.
Anyway, with the truck in the shop for most all of November
2017, I had no way to haul the posts and tools needed to continue sitting posts.
And not only that, but those nice, warm days in November are gone now. I was
hoping that I could’ve gotten the fencing finished before April 2018, but now I
don’t know when I will get it finished.
