Homesteading On 3+ Hillside Acres

Hillside land is difficult to manage, and even more difficult to grow crops on. And for a person who doesn’t have nearly enough financial means to develop such land, well, it is nearly impossible to make one’s dreams come true. The fact is I’ve never been financially strong. By that I mean I always have been and still am a poor man. Of course, being poor never stopped me from helping others whenever I could.
Anyway, in October 2017, I began erecting fence posts that will later secure the fencing wire that will enclose my 3+ hillside acres. I had gotten a length of probably about one hundred feet of posts sit. On my way home, after dark, on November 1,2017, a deer ran out in front of our pickup and caused nearly five thousand dollars in damages. This truck is our only dependable source of transportation. It took nearly four weeks to get the damage repaired. But I am so grateful that the insurance covered the damage.  At least I think they are going to cover it all. The bank lets us use this truck, providing we make the monthly rent payments to them on time.

Anyway, with the truck in the shop for most all of November 2017, I had no way to haul the posts and tools needed to continue sitting posts. And not only that, but those nice, warm days in November are gone now. I was hoping that I could’ve gotten the fencing finished before April 2018, but now I don’t know when I will get it finished.
